The Dream
As a small boy growing up down in Delta County, MI, young Pablo Maki had a dream. His dream was of a big city coffee shop in downtown Marquette, up on the quiet shores of Lake Superior, in the heart of the Savage North. We at Dead River Coffee are committed to keeping little Pablo’s dream alive.
We custom roast a wide selection of fine Arabica coffees brought from exotic locales with strange-sounding names, available by the cup or by the pound.

We’re still serving home-made pie and other baked goods just the way Señora Maki made them for the boys in the lumber camps!

How rugged traders and their equally rugged indigenous wives strove to bring the civilizing influence of coffee to a cold & lonely population north of 45°. But simply put, its our take on a traditional mocha java blend.

Dan Peavey’s saloon was just two blocks East of the big Lutheran church where Ruby OMalley, the light keeper’s daughter, played organ on Sundays.
One Sunday in early May, Ruby walked in Peavey’s place and knocked him cold with the butt of her umbrella. As Peavey lay bleeding on sawdust, Ruby walked to the station and caught a fast freight south.

Dark and Smoky, this is our version of a traditional French Roast. It speaks to an earlier time when elegance was a more rugged concept, a time when chocolate cake didn’t come from boxes.

I’ve got a friend named Irv. He drinks this stuff while wearing his white dinner jacket. Sometimes he invites Emily and she wears a sequined gown. They read sonnets and stir each others coffee.
